The Artist

Hi, I’m Daphne, lifelong art lover, daydreamer, and mess maker! I’m a self taught artist that prefers learning by doing (and often failing a lot first) and exploring new inspirations, mediums, and techniques along the way.

I’ve had a love for stories since childhood, and I realized early on that not everyone visualized the words like I did. I used to burrow in the hollow of the two large pine trees in my front yard, play the “movie soundtrack” cd my dad made me, and dream up epic tales like only a child can. However, when it came to telling these stories, instead of writing them down, I would end up drawing them out. I later began illustrating the movies I watched, the people I went to school with, and any oddly shaped tree I happily stumbled upon. This interest of mine has taken shape in many ways since then, leading me to a BFA in creative writing in college and a wide variety of hobbies, projects, and dreams.

Most recently, I’ve taken a step further than I ever have before by leaving my day job in pursuit of a full time career in the arts. As is characteristic of me, I’m learning as I go, but with every step I take I continue to learn and to love this journey.

The Art

Now for the part I really love to talk about!

Art is all about connection. There are invisible threads that bind everything in existence, whether it’s our relationships with other people, with the natural world, with ourselves, or with God himself, everything plays a role in the great story of life. What I aim to do with anything I create is to find one of those invisible threads and make it visible. This is symbolic work, sometimes obvious and sometimes abstract, and different mediums are better suited for certain topics than others. That is why, if you stick around long enough, you’ll find the art displayed here will vary greatly in regards to topic, style, and medium.

When it comes to my personal work, I will always fancy painting and pull inspiration from nature, the Bible, other people, and great literature.

Commissions, however, are equally exciting for me as I get to do what I love most, listening to new stories and bringing them to life in a beautiful, visual form.
